In Today’s Kim’s Adventure we check out the Red Rock Park in Gallup New Mexico. Red Rock Park is the crown jewel of Gallup’s parks and recreation system. Cradled by spectacular red cliffs, visitors will get a glimpse into past civilizations with modern amenities. Red Rock is 640 acres of hiking trails, convention center, museum and a well-equipped campground.
Let’s talk about Red Rock’s Trail System. Red Rock Park include two trails that connect with each other. Both afford stunning views of Pyramid Peak and Church Rock. The Pyramid Rock Trail is 3 miles out and back, where you can hike up to the top of the peak. When you reach the end, you’ll be able to spot the old Bunkers of Fort Wingate.
A slightly shorter hike is the Church Rock Trail which is 2 miles out and back. It leads you up to the sandstone spires for which the trail is named after. If you’re just passing through Gallup, I would definitely recommend going on these hikes.
Gallup is home to some of the best rodeo events in the southwest. Spring and summer signal rodeo season hosted in the 5,000 capacity Red Rock Park Arena. The stunning crimson cliffs serves as a backdrop as guests watch a thrilling, family and budget friendly experience. Annual competitions include the Red Rock Classic USTRC Team Roping qualifier followed by the Gallup Lions Club Youth and Open Show Rodeo.
My favorite Amenity at Red Rock Park are the campgrounds The facilities include two camping locations. There are electric and water hookups, Wi-Fi, picnic areas and on-site bathrooms and showers. The campsites cost $10 for primitive, $22 for water/electric and $440 for an entire month.
