We finally made it to Oregon and checked into Kampgrounds of America, also known as KOA. It’s only half a mile from the I-5 and conveniently located between Medford and Grants Pass Founded in 1962, KOA is the World’s largest system of privately held campgrounds with almost 500 locations across the United States. Since we were the first one to arrive, we decided to set up all the tents. There are shady tent sites, camping cabins and pull thru RV’s up to 100 feet long with free wi-fi, cable tv and 50-amp service. This is one of the best tent sites I’ve ever camped at, because it’s on top of grass and there are trees to provide shade.
The rest of our group came in the evening, and I immediately built them a fire so they could roast marshmallows. After breakfast the kids started rekindling the fire. It didn’t take long for them to run amok. They even ran military drills. And after they were done playing, they went to the pool and played some more. Everyone was tired from our first full day of fun, and we relaxed by sitting around the fire talking about Minecraft. On the last day we made everyone bacon and eggs. They had some down time, so they played some games in the camp office. I don’t know if there was any father and son bonding, but Dylan definitely did a lot of playing. Thank you, Medford Gold Hill KOA, for a great stay.
